A Place of History and Reinvention

London is a city that wears its history well, layering the old with the new in a way that feels effortless. Walking down Cannon Street, past the grand dome of St. Paul’s, you can’t help but feel the weight of time pressing in around you. Right in the heart of it all is 25 Cannon Street—a building with a story that stretches back centuries but stands today as a symbol of reinvention.

A Legacy in Stone

Long before glass towers and contemporary office spaces, this area was a hub of London’s early tradespeople. It was once Candlewick Street, named for the candle makers whose flickering lights must have once danced against the cathedral’s towering frame. Over time, the district evolved, becoming a vital artery of London’s financial and commercial life.

Dig beneath the surface—literally—and the history is even richer. Archaeological finds on this very site have uncovered remnants of Roman London: a place of wooden beams, mosaic floors, and bustling streets. It’s fascinating to think that where modern businesses now thrive, traders once bartered, and Roman footsteps once echoed on stone.

A Modern Rebirth

Fast-forward to today, and 25 Cannon Street has undergone its own transformation. The building, reimagined by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, brings together history and modernity in a way that feels natural. The classical elegance of its original façade now rises with a contemporary edge, blending materials and design in a way that respects the past while embracing the future.

One of its most striking features is the rooftop garden—a serene, green escape overlooking St. Paul’s. In a city where nature often takes second place to steel and concrete, this rooftop breathes life back into the urban landscape. It’s not just a place to sit; it’s a statement about how buildings should interact with their surroundings.

More Than Just a Building

25 Cannon Street is more than just another address in the City of London. It’s a space that carries stories—of candle makers, Roman merchants, and now, contemporary creatives and professionals shaping the future. To stand beneath its roof is to stand at the crossroads of time, a reminder that the most beautiful spaces are those that honour where they’ve come from while daring to evolve.

Pembroke – Creating Spaces Where Art and Life Thrive

There’s something special about a space that’s been crafted with care. It’s the difference between a building that merely functions and one that breathes—one that holds within it a sense of purpose, energy, and artistry. Pembroke is an organisation that understands this deeply.

A Thoughtful Approach to Spaces

Pembroke isn’t just about property; they’re about people. Their projects—from London to Boston, Sydney to Tokyo—are designed to be more than places to work or live. They create environments that inspire. Their ethos is about blending architecture with community, creativity, and culture—making sure that each space they develop has its own soul.

That approach was clear in the recent art event they hosted—one that I was honored to be part of. Rather than treating art as an afterthought, they integrated it into the fabric of their space, proving that a building can be more than walls and windows. It can be a canvas.

Championing Art & Creativity

What for me sets Pembroke apart is their commitment to creating spaces that inspire. Rather than simply decorating with art, they open their doors to creative expression in meaningful ways. Hosting events like the recent exhibition I was part of shows their willingness to support artists and bring fresh perspectives into their spaces. By making room for creativity, they help spark new conversations and ways of experiencing the environments we move through every day.

I feel their belief in art as a vital part of life is something I resonate with deeply. In a world where commercial spaces can often feel sterile and impersonal, Pembroke actively celebrates creativity, making sure that their buildings don’t just house businesses—they foster imagination.

More Than Just Real Estate

Pembroke is proof that buildings can be alive with energy, movement, and meaning. They create places where people don’t just exist but thrive—where art isn’t a decoration but a dialogue, shaping the way we experience the world. It’s a vision I deeply admire, and one that I was proud to be part of.

For those of us who believe in the power of creativity to transform spaces, Pembroke is a reminder that architecture and art belong together. And in their hands, the future of our built environment feels a little more human.
